Dubai visa requirements for Bangladeshi travellers

Bangladeshi passport holders need a visa before flying to Dubai. Here is exactly which visa to apply for, what the UAE immigration authority asks for, and the mistakes that get applications rejected.

Dubai is the single most requested destination at our Banani counter, and almost every conversation starts the same way: what do I need for the visa? Bangladeshi passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in the UAE, so the visa has to be issued before you fly. The good news is that the process is entirely paperwork-based — there is no interview and no biometric appointment for a standard tourist visa.

Which visa do you actually need?

The UAE issues several short-stay visas, and choosing the wrong one is the most expensive mistake a first-time traveller makes.

  • 14-day tourist visa — the cheapest option, suitable only if your return ticket is genuinely inside two weeks. There is no grace period worth relying on.
  • 30-day tourist visa — the standard choice for a holiday. Most of our Dubai packages are built around this.
  • 60-day tourist visa — worth the extra cost if you are visiting family, combining Dubai with Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, or travelling with elderly parents who need a slower itinerary.
  • Multiple-entry visas — available for frequent travellers with a strong travel history, and usually only worth applying for if you have previous UAE, Schengen, UK or US stamps.

Visas are issued electronically. You will receive a PDF that you should print and also keep on your phone; airline check-in staff at Dhaka will ask to see it before issuing a boarding pass.

Documents you must provide

The core list is short, but each item has conditions that catch people out:

  • Passport scan with at least six months of validity from your date of travel, and at least two blank pages. If your passport expires in five months, renew it first — the application will be rejected.
  • Recent photograph with a white background, taken within the last six months. Glasses, heavy shadows and a coloured background are all grounds for rejection.
  • Confirmed return air ticket. A held reservation is normally accepted at the application stage; a fully paid ticket is not required until the visa is approved.
  • Hotel booking covering your whole stay, or a host's details if you are staying with family.
  • Bank statement for the last three to six months.

The bank statement question

This is where most Bangladeshi applications fail. There is no officially published minimum balance, but in practice we advise clients to show a closing balance of at least BDT 150,000 per traveller for a week-long trip, with a consistent transaction history. A dormant account that suddenly receives a large deposit two days before the application looks exactly like what it is, and reviewers treat it that way. If you are sponsoring family members, your own statement must comfortably cover everyone.

The statement should be printed on bank letterhead, signed and sealed by the branch. Online PDF statements without a bank seal are frequently returned.

Processing time and cost

Standard processing takes three to five working days. Express processing, where available, takes 24 to 48 hours at a premium. During peak periods — Eid holidays, the Dubai Shopping Festival and the winter school break — add two or three days, because the volume of applications from the subcontinent rises sharply.

Budget for the government visa fee, the service charge and, for some visa categories, a refundable security deposit. Deposits are returned after you exit the UAE and your departure is recorded, which typically takes four to six weeks.

Why applications get rejected

In our experience the recurring reasons are: a passport with less than six months validity, a photograph that does not meet the specification, a weak or inconsistent bank statement, a name mismatch between the passport and the air ticket, and a previous overstay or deportation record in any GCC country. A rejection is not always final — a properly rebuilt application often succeeds — but the visa fee is usually not refunded, which is why getting it right the first time matters.

Before you fly

Carry printed copies of your visa, ticket and hotel booking. Keep at least USD 100 or the equivalent in cash. Dubai immigration officers occasionally ask arriving tourists to show their return ticket and accommodation, and having the paperwork in hand turns a five-minute conversation into a thirty-second one. Finally, check your onward connection: if you are transiting through Dubai to another country, the rules are different and a transit visa may be the cheaper option.
